Polyrhythmics is a Seattle-based ensemble specializing in instrumental Afrobeat, Ethio-jazz, and psychedelic funk. Their music blends complex polyrhythms with melodic improvisation, drawing influence from artists like Fela Kuti, Mulatu Astatke, and Jimi Hendrix. The group features a core lineup including horns, guitars, keyboards, bass, and percussion, creating a dynamic and energetic sound often described as cinematic and danceable. They have released multiple albums on labels such as Daptone Records and consistently tour internationally.

The Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver is a historic venue located on Hastings Street in the city’s downtown eastside. Originally opened in 1928 as a single-screen movie theatre showcasing primarily Chinese-language films for the local immigrant community, it underwent renovations in the early 2000s to transform into a live performance space. Today, it maintains much of its original art deco architecture while hosting a diverse range of events including concerts, theatrical performances, film screenings, and community gatherings. The venue has a capacity of approximately 550 people and is known for its intimate atmosphere and strong sightlines. It remains an important cultural hub within Vancouver’s entertainment landscape.
