Experience Philharmonie Leipzig live on August 16th
Philharmonie Leipzig, one of Germany’s oldest and most esteemed orchestras, will perform at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on August 16, 2026. The orchestra has a long tradition of performing a broad repertoire, encompassing works from the Baroque period through contemporary compositions, with a particular strength in the German Romantic tradition – composers such as Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Brahms feature prominently in their performances. Founded in 1840, the orchestra evolved from the Gewandhaus Orchestra's earlier iterations and maintains a close relationship with the city of Leipzig’s musical heritage.
The Concertgebouw, opened in 1888, is renowned globally for its exceptional acoustics and is considered one of the world’s leading concert halls. Designed by Pieter Cuypers, its rectangular shape and specific architectural details contribute to its warm and natural sound. Throughout its history, the Concertgebouw has been home to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra but also regularly hosts performances by internationally acclaimed orchestras like Philharmonie Leipzig. The hall's interior features rich ornamentation and murals created by Dutch artists of the time. Its acoustic qualities have been consistently praised by musicians and audiences alike for over a century.
