The Château de Saint-Montan, located in the Dordogne region of France, dates back to the 13th century. Originally a fortress built by the Beynac family, it underwent significant modifications in the 15th and 16th centuries, transitioning from a purely defensive structure to a more comfortable residence. The castle experienced periods of abandonment following the French Revolution but was meticulously restored beginning in the late 20th century by artist Yves Delattre. This restoration wasn’t merely conservation; Delattre integrated his sculptural work directly into the fabric of the building, creating a unique blend of historical architecture and contemporary art.
