Orquesta Moderna will be performing at Explanada De La Alhaondiga De Granaditas in Guanajuato, Mexico on October 7, 2026. The ensemble is known for its interpretations of danzón, a genre originating in Cuba that blends Spanish and African musical elements. Their style often incorporates modern arrangements while remaining rooted in the traditional instrumentation and rhythms of danzón – typically featuring woodwinds, brass, percussion, and string instruments. Orquesta Moderna has been active since its founding in 1994 by Arturo O’Farrill, and continues under the direction of his son, Arturo O’Farrill Jr., achieving recognition for revitalizing and expanding the danzón repertoire.

The Explanada De La Alhaondiga De Granaditas holds historical significance as the site of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a former grain storehouse. In 1810, it was repurposed as a fortress by Spanish colonial forces during the early stages of the Mexican War of Independence. It was subsequently stormed by insurgent forces led by Ignacio Allende, marking a crucial victory for the independence movement.
