The Open Air Theater Veliko Tarnovo, often called “Roman Theatre”, is an ancient structure dating back to the Roman city of Nicopolis ad Istrum, originally constructed in the 1st century AD. Rediscovered in 1953 during archaeological excavations, it was extensively restored between 1958 and 1963. The theater is uniquely built into the southern slope of Tsarevets Fortress and offers natural acoustics due to its semi-circular design and stone construction. Today, it serves as a significant venue for cultural events including theatrical performances, concerts, and historical reenactments attracting audiences up to approximately 750 people. Its historical context and picturesque location make it a prominent landmark in Bulgaria.
