Orchester der Oper Zürich is the resident orchestra of the Zurich Opera House, renowned for its versatility and commitment to both operatic repertoire and symphonic concerts. The orchestra’s musical style is deeply rooted in the Central European tradition, encompassing a broad range from Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular strength in performing music written for the operatic stage. The Opernhaus Zürich, inaugurated in 1898, holds a significant place in Swiss cultural history. Designed by Austrian architects Fellner & Helmer, it initially faced public criticism for its lavish Art Nouveau style, considered unconventional for Zurich at the time. However, it quickly became established as a leading opera house, known for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting – seating approximately 1158 people.

Throughout its history, the Opernhaus has been associated with numerous prominent musicians and performers. It underwent extensive renovations between 2009 and 2014 to modernize facilities while preserving its architectural character. The building continues to function as both an opera house and a concert venue, hosting a diverse program of performances throughout the year.
