St Stephen’s Dulwich is a Grade I listed Anglican church built in 1879-80 by Sir Arthur Blomfield. It stands within the Dulwich Estate, a historic area established in 1605 by Edward Alleyn, actor and founder of Dulwich College. The church is noted for its High Victorian Gothic architecture, featuring intricate stone carvings, stained glass windows designed by Clayton & Bell, and a significant series of wall paintings completed between 1880-1883 by Frederick Shields depicting scenes from the life of Christ. These paintings are considered particularly important examples of Victorian church decoration and were extensively restored in the late 20th century.
