Experience Old Oaks live on August 8th
Old Oaks is a folk-bluegrass ensemble known for intricate instrumental arrangements and close vocal harmonies. Their music draws heavily from traditional American roots music, incorporating elements of Appalachian folk, bluegrass, and contemporary songwriting. The band features mandolin, banjo, guitar, upright bass, and vocal performances that often explore themes of nature, storytelling, and community.
Blue Mound State Park, the concert’s venue, is located in the Village of Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. Established in 1951, the park centers around the largest effigy mound in the United States – a large earthwork shaped like a bison – constructed by ancestors of the Ho-Chunk Nation. These mounds are considered sacred sites and represent significant cultural heritage. The park encompasses approximately 1,153 acres featuring diverse landscapes including open prairies, oak savannas and forested areas. It’s situated atop a prominent geological feature: Blue Mounds itself – a remnant of ancient seabed exposed through glacial activity composed primarily of quartzite. The park provides opportunities for hiking, camping and observing native flora and fauna as well as learning about the region's geological and Indigenous history. The concert will be held within the park grounds utilizing an existing outdoor performance space.
