Reading Abbey Ruins represent the remains of Reading Abbey, founded by Henry I in 1121. The abbey was one of the most important religious houses in medieval England, playing a significant role in English history for over 400 years. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII in 1539, the abbey was largely demolished. Today, the ruins are a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade I listed building managed by Reading Borough Council. The site is open to the public as a park and historical landmark; its atmospheric setting frequently hosts cultural events due to its historical significance and unique acoustics. The surviving structures primarily include parts of the gateway and some sections of the church walls.
