Experience Nowak live on November 16th
On November 16, 2026, a concert featuring the music of Polish composer Mieczysław Nowak will be presented at the Opernhaus Wuppertal. Nowak’s compositional style is generally categorized as late-Romantic with strong influences from Polish folk music and expressionism. His works often feature dramatic intensity, complex harmonies, and a distinctive melodic voice, exploring themes of national identity and existential questioning. He is particularly known for his choral works and operas, though instrumental pieces also form a significant part of his output.
The Opernhaus Wuppertal holds a notable place in German theatrical history. Originally opened in 1900, the building underwent significant damage during World War II and was subsequently rebuilt in a streamlined modern style between 1959-1961, retaining its original stage tower. This reconstruction resulted in a unique architectural blend of historical preservation and post-war functionality. The venue is renowned for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting – seating approximately 870 patrons – fostering a close connection between performers and audience. It operates as a municipal theatre, presenting opera, ballet, drama, and concerts throughout the year as part of the Wuppertal Bühnen ensemble.
