On June 20, 2027, the Semperoper Dresden will host a concert dedicated to the works of Italian composer Nino Rota. Rota is best known for his film scores, particularly his collaborations with Federico Fellini – *La Strada*, *8½*, and *Amarcord* among them – and Luchino Visconti. His musical style blends melodic simplicity with elements of circus music, Neapolitan song, and jazz, often evoking a sense of nostalgia and bittersweetness. While prolific in film, Rota also composed ballets, operas, and concert music demonstrating a versatility beyond his cinematic reputation.

The Semperoper itself holds significant cultural importance. Originally opened in 1841, it was rebuilt twice following devastating fires – once in 1860 and again after its destruction during World War II in 1945. The current building, a neo-Renaissance structure designed by Gottfried Semper, reopened in 1985 and stands as a symbol of Dresden’s resilience. It is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and architectural grandeur.
