Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin, a German orchestra with roots tracing back to the 17th century, will perform at the Freilichtbühne Schwerin on July 14, 2026. The orchestra’s repertoire is broad, encompassing works from the Baroque period through to contemporary compositions, with a particular focus on German Romantic composers and opera performances. Historically, the ensemble served as the court orchestra for the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and maintains a tradition of both orchestral concerts and operatic productions.
The Freilichtbühne Schwerin is an open-air theatre situated on a floating stage on Lake Schwerin. Inaugurated in 1919, it is one of Germany’s oldest surviving open-air stages. Originally constructed for theatrical performances and festivals, it has hosted a diverse range of events over its history including operas, concerts, shows and revues. The stage's unique location creates a distinctive atmosphere due to its setting directly on the water and backdrop of Schwerin Castle.
