Mavis Staples is scheduled to perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, New Jersey on October 23, 2026. Staples’s music blends gospel, soul, rhythm and blues, and pop influences. Emerging from the Staple Singers alongside her father and siblings, she developed a distinctive alto voice and a powerful stage presence. Her solo career, spanning decades, consistently addresses themes of faith, love, and social justice. She has received numerous accolades including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and multiple Grammy Awards for her later albums.

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center opened in 1988 with the goal of revitalizing downtown Newark and providing a world-class arts venue for the region. It is New Jersey’s largest performing arts center and hosts a diverse range of programming including orchestral performances, Broadway shows, dance recitals, jazz concerts, and spoken word events. NJPAC features multiple performance spaces including the Prudential Hall which seats approximately 2,200 people; the Victoria Theater; and smaller studio spaces. The complex also serves as an educational resource through its arts education programs aimed at local youth and communities.
