Mavis Staples is scheduled to perform at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai, California on August 29, 2026. Staples’s music blends gospel, soul, rhythm and blues, and pop influences. Emerging from the Staple Singers alongside her father and siblings, she developed a distinctive vocal style characterized by passionate delivery and powerful emotional resonance. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for both her work with the Staple Singers – prominent during the Civil Rights Movement – and her successful solo output, earning numerous Grammy Awards and a National Heritage Fellowship.

The Libbey Bowl, officially known as the Stuart A. Foley Memorial Libbey Bowl, is an outdoor amphitheater located within Libbey Park in Ojai. Constructed in 1964 through a donation from Ralph & Caroline Libbey, it quickly became a significant cultural venue. Originally designed to host the Ojai Festival – a multi-arts event – the bowl has since hosted a diverse range of performances including classical music, dance, theater and popular music concerts. The venue is known for its natural acoustics and intimate setting nestled within the Topa Topa Mountains. It underwent renovations in recent years to improve accessibility and enhance the audience experience while retaining its original character.
