Mavis Staples is scheduled to perform at the Historic Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs, California on February 12, 2027. Staples’s music blends gospel, soul, R&B, and folk influences, rooted in her upbringing singing with her family, The Staple Singers. Her vocal style is known for its powerful delivery and emotive quality, often addressing themes of civil rights and social justice alongside personal reflection. Throughout a career spanning seven decades, she has received numerous accolades including multiple Grammy Awards and a Kennedy Center Honor.

The Historic Plaza Theatre originally opened in 1936 as a movie palace during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Designed in the Art Deco style by architect Charles Marion, it quickly became a central entertainment venue for Palm Springs residents and visitors. Initially showcasing films, the theatre also hosted live performances and events. Following periods of decline and closure, a significant restoration project was completed in late 2023 returning the theatre to its former glory while modernizing facilities. The restored venue now functions as a multi-purpose performing arts center hosting concerts, theatrical productions, film screenings and community events maintaining its historical architectural features.
