María Dueñas will perform at the Gran Sala Sinfónica Nacional in Santiago, Chile on October 4, 2026. Dueñas is a Chilean composer and pianist whose work frequently blends contemporary classical music with influences from South American folklore and jazz harmonies. Her compositions often feature extended techniques for piano and explore themes of memory, landscape, and cultural identity. She is recognized for her evocative and emotionally resonant musical language, incorporating both intricate structures and improvisational elements.
The Gran Sala Sinfónica Nacional, located within the Centro Cultural Pablo Neruda, is the primary concert hall for orchestral music in Chile. Inaugurated in 1982, it was designed by architect Jorge Andrade Guevara with acoustic consultation from Tom Hidley. The hall is known for its excellent acoustics and its capacity to host large orchestral ensembles – seating approximately 1,968 people. It serves as the home venue for the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile and regularly hosts international touring orchestras and soloists. The space’s design incorporates a horseshoe shape typical of European concert halls, aiming to create an intimate connection between performers and audience while maintaining optimal sound projection.
