Lyric Quartet will perform at Sainte-Chapelle in Paris on August 3, 2026. The ensemble is recognized for its interpretations of the classical string quartet repertoire, alongside explorations of arrangements of operatic and vocal works transcribed for their instrumentation. Their performances often highlight both technical precision and expressive nuance, drawing from a broad range of composers including Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, and arrangements of pieces by Puccini and Verdi.
Sainte-Chapelle is a royal chapel within the Palais de la Cité, the medieval and Renaissance royal palace in Paris. Commissioned by King Louis IX in 1248 to house precious Christian relics – including what was believed to be the Crown of Thorns – it is considered among the highest achievements of Gothic architecture. The chapel is particularly renowned for its extensive stained glass windows; fifteen windows depict over one thousand scenes from the Old and New Testaments, filling the interior with vibrant light. Construction was completed in 1268. Originally serving as a palatine chapel for the French monarchy, Sainte-Chapelle later functioned as a courthouse during the French Revolution and has since been restored to its religious purpose while also functioning as a historical monument open to public visitation.
