Lyric Quartet will perform at Sainte-Chapelle in Paris on July 31, 2026. The quartet is recognized for its interpretations of the classical string quartet repertoire, with a particular focus on composers from the Viennese Classical period – Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven – alongside explorations of works from later Romantic and 20th-century composers. Their performances are noted for technical precision combined with expressive phrasing and a commitment to historically informed performance practice.
Sainte-Chapelle is a royal chapel in the Gothic style, built between 1242 and 1248 by King Louis IX of France. Commissioned to house precious Christian relics, including Christ’s Crown of Thorns, it stands as one of the high points of French Gothic architecture. The chapel is renowned for its extensive use of stained glass; fifteen large windows depict over one thousand scenes from the Old and New Testaments, filling the interior with colored light.
Originally part of the Palais de la Cité, the former royal palace and administrative center of Paris, Sainte-Chapelle served as a symbol of royal power and religious devotion.
