Ludovic Tézier, a French countertenor celebrated for his expressive interpretations and vocal agility, will perform at the Prinzregententheater in Munich on July 20, 2026. Tézier’s repertoire spans from Baroque opera – particularly Handel and Vivaldi – to French classical and romantic works, often showcasing a nuanced understanding of ornamentation and dramatic phrasing. He is known for bringing a contemporary sensibility to early music while also excelling in more recent compositions written for countertenor.
The Prinzregententheater, inaugurated in 1903, holds a significant place in Munich’s cultural history. Commissioned by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria as a venue for the Bavarian State Opera during the construction of the Nationaltheater (now the Bayerische Staatsoper), it initially served as the primary opera house. Distinctive for its horseshoe-shaped auditorium inspired by the Palais Garnier in Paris, it features lavish Art Nouveau detailing and excellent acoustics. Following renovations in the 1990s, it now functions primarily as a concert hall and secondary opera venue, hosting a diverse range of performances including opera, ballet, concerts and theatrical productions.
