The Louisville Orchestra is a fully professional orchestra with a history rooted in performances spanning classical repertoire, contemporary works, pops concerts, and educational outreach programs. Known for its commitment to both traditional orchestral standards and innovative programming, the orchestra frequently collaborates with both established and emerging artists. It has a recording history including collaborations with prominent composers like Aaron Copland.
The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, where the concert will take place, opened in 1985 following a substantial fundraising campaign and civic effort. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the Center serves as Kentucky’s largest performing arts complex. It houses five performance spaces: Whitney Hall (originally known as Center Stage), Bomhard Theater, Norton Theater, Studio One and the Kentucky Center’s lawn. Beyond hosting national Broadway tours and renowned musical acts, it is also home to several resident arts organizations including the Louisville Orchestra, Kentucky Opera, and the Louisville Ballet. The building’s distinctive architectural features include a glass-enclosed atrium and a prominent location along Main Street in downtown Louisville.
