Le Concert Spirituel, founded in 1987 by Hervé Niquet, is a French ensemble specializing in the rediscovery and performance of sacred music from the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly French Baroque repertoire. The group focuses on works originally intended for the Royal Chapel in Versailles and the musical life of the French court under Louis XIV and Louis XV, often performing rarely heard compositions alongside more familiar pieces. Their approach emphasizes historically informed performance practice, utilizing period instruments and vocal techniques.

The concert will take place at Église Saint-Pierre in Arromanches-les-Bains, Normandy. This church holds significant historical weight due to its location in a town central to the D-Day landings during World War II. While the current structure largely dates from the 1950s – it was rebuilt after extensive damage sustained during the Battle of Normandy – it stands on foundations with origins tracing back to the 11th century. The original Romanesque church was significantly altered over subsequent centuries, including Gothic additions in the 15th and 16th centuries before its near-total destruction in 1944.
