The Lensic Performing Arts Centre occupies a historically significant building in downtown Santa Fe. Originally constructed in 1931 as a movie palace designed in the Pueblo Deco style by architect George E. Phillips, it operated as a cinema for several decades. Facing potential demolition in the 1990s, a community-led fundraising effort secured its restoration and conversion into a multi-disciplinary performing arts venue. The Lensic reopened in 2001 and now hosts a diverse array of events including concerts, dance performances, theatre productions, film screenings, and lectures. The building’s architecture reflects the regional aesthetic of New Mexico with Native American and Spanish Colonial influences incorporated into its design.
