The National Arts Centre (NAC), located in Ottawa, Canada, is a multi-disciplinary performing arts venue established in 1969 as part of the country’s centennial celebrations. Designed by architect Fred Lebensold, the building itself is a prominent example of brutalist architecture. The NAC houses multiple performance spaces including Southam Hall, primarily used for orchestral performances; Babs Asper Theatre, dedicated to theatre and dance; and Studio K, a more intimate space for smaller productions.
The NAC functions as both a performance venue hosting national and international artists, and as a creation hub supporting Canadian artistic development through commissioning programs and residencies. It receives funding from the Government of Canada and operates as a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to promote and celebrate Canadian arts and culture on a national stage.
