Joe Lovano, a highly acclaimed American jazz saxophonist and composer, will be performing at Volkshaus Basel on June 29, 2026. Lovano’s musical style is rooted in the post-bop tradition, yet consistently explores diverse influences including modern classical music, Brazilian rhythms, and avant-garde improvisation. He is known for his lyrical tenor saxophone playing, harmonic sophistication, and a robust tone often described as emotionally expressive. Throughout his career, Lovano has collaborated with numerous prominent figures in jazz, and maintains a prolific recording output as both a leader and sideman.

Volkshaus Basel is a significant cultural venue in Basel, Switzerland. Originally constructed in 1928 as a workers’ club and social center by the General Swiss Workers' Union (Allgemeiner Schweizerischer Arbeiterverein – ASAV), it served as a hub for the labor movement. Over time, it evolved into a multi-purpose space hosting concerts, exhibitions, markets and events. The building underwent extensive renovations completed in 2011 which modernized its facilities while preserving its historical character.
