Joanna MacGregor is a British pianist renowned for her versatile repertoire encompassing classical, contemporary, and jazz influences. Her performances are characterised by rhythmic vitality, technical brilliance, and a commitment to expanding the boundaries of piano music, often incorporating improvisation and cross-genre collaborations. She is a Professor of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music and has held positions with several orchestras as Artist-in-Residence.
The concert will take place within the Corn Exchange, a significant component of the Brighton Dome complex. Originally constructed in 1805 as the Royal Pavilion’s stables, it was converted into a corn exchange in 1861 to facilitate grain trading for the growing city. Following periods of decline and use as a drill hall, it was extensively restored in the late 20th century and reopened as a major performance venue in 2007.
The Corn Exchange retains much of its original architectural features including its impressive timber roof structure. It is now equipped to host diverse events including concerts, theatre productions and large-scale conferences. The space is known for its excellent acoustics and flexible configuration allowing for varied staging possibilities.
