Jean-Guihen Queyras is a French cellist internationally recognized for his interpretations of both standard repertoire and lesser-known works. His playing is often described as possessing a refined lyricism combined with technical precision, demonstrating a particular affinity for French composers like Debussy and Fauré, while also frequently performing works by Bach and contemporary artists. He is known for chamber music collaborations as well as solo performances with leading orchestras.

The concert will take place at the Cloître des Cordeliers in Forcalquier, France. This historical site originally housed a Franciscan monastery founded in the 14th century. The cloister, a remarkably well-preserved example of Gothic architecture, features delicate arcades and a central courtyard. Following the French Revolution, the monastery was repurposed, serving at various times as a hospital, barracks, and even a tobacco factory.

Today, the Cloître des Cordeliers functions as a cultural center hosting exhibitions, conferences and musical events. Its acoustics are considered particularly suited to chamber music performances due to the enclosed nature of the cloister and its stone construction which provides natural reverberation.
