Janáčkova filharmonie Ostrava, founded in 1945, is a Czech symphony orchestra renowned for its interpretations of works by Leoš Janáček, often showcasing the unique Moravian musical tradition. The concert will take place at Ii. Zámecké Nádvoří (Second Castle Courtyard) within Litomyšl Castle. This Renaissance castle is one of the most significant in the Czech Republic, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. The courtyard itself dates primarily from the 16th century, commissioned by Vratislav II of Pernštejn during extensive castle renovations. It’s distinguished by its sgraffito decorations – elaborate ornamental plasterwork – depicting scenes from mythology and Renaissance life, making it a visually striking and historically important venue.
