The Orpheum Theatre originally opened in November 1927 as a lavish movie palace built by Marcus Loew’s Orpheum Circuit. Designed by Marcus Priteca, it was envisioned as the premier venue for vaudeville acts on the Pacific Northwest circuit. The theatre’s interior features ornate plasterwork, gilded detailing, and a crystal chandelier weighing approximately three tons. Over its history, the Orpheum transitioned from a film house to primarily hosting live performances. It underwent significant restoration work in 1974 to prevent demolition and was subsequently designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1980 due to its architectural and cultural significance.
