Ilan Volkov will be appearing in concert at Oslo Konserthus on September 10, 2026. Volkov is a Venezuelan-born Israeli conductor known for his interpretations of 20th and 21st-century classical music, frequently championing composers often overlooked by mainstream orchestras. His approach emphasizes a collaborative relationship with musicians, often incorporating elements of improvisation and exploring unconventional performance settings. He has a strong reputation for working with orchestras in innovative ways, and is currently Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Oslo Konserthus, completed in 1977, is the principal concert hall in Oslo and home to the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Designed by architects Arkitektgruppen VAAS, it is notable for its acoustics which were heavily influenced by the work of Russell Johnson. The hall’s design incorporates a ‘shoe-box’ shape considered optimal for orchestral sound, alongside adjustable elements to tailor acoustics to different ensemble sizes and musical styles. It replaced an earlier Konserthus built in 1926 that was destroyed by fire in 1971. The building also houses several smaller halls used for chamber music and other events and is a significant cultural landmark within the city.
