The Théâtre Antique d'Orange is a remarkably well-preserved Roman theatre dating back to the 1st century AD. Constructed during the reign of Emperor Augustus, it was originally designed to host theatrical performances and public gatherings for the citizens of Arausio (modern-day Orange). Its imposing stage wall, standing almost 103 feet high, remains largely intact and is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Roman theatre architecture globally. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, the theatre continues to be used for performances today, offering a unique acoustic experience due to its natural amphitheater design and historical significance. It can accommodate a substantial audience within its ancient stone structure.
