Groundation live in Portland

Experience Groundation live on September 25th

Groundation is scheduled to perform at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine on September 25, 2026. The band is recognized for its unique blend of roots reggae, dub, jazz, and soul, often incorporating extended instrumental improvisations and a strong emphasis on conscious lyrical themes. Formed in the early 2000s, Groundation has become known for its dedication to authentically representing traditional Jamaican music while simultaneously pushing its boundaries.

The State Theatre originally opened in 1929 as a movie palace and vaudeville house. Designed by architect Horace C. Peabody, it showcased both film and live performances throughout much of the 20th century. Following periods of decline and subsequent restoration efforts beginning in the 1990s, the venue was revitalized as a premier performing arts center.

Today, the State Theatre hosts a diverse range of events including concerts, comedy shows, and theatrical productions. It’s known for its ornate architecture – featuring intricate plasterwork and a grand atmosphere – and has a capacity of approximately 1,900 people. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places recognizing its architectural significance within Portland’s cultural landscape.
