Experience Grigory Sokolov live on May 8th
Grigory Sokolov will perform a solo piano recital at Herkulessaal in Munich, Germany on May 8, 2027. Sokolov is renowned for his intensely individual and deeply considered interpretations of classical piano repertoire, particularly that of composers like Beethoven, Schubert, and Bach. His playing is characterized by a meticulous attention to voicing, a remarkable control of dynamics ranging from the barely audible to powerfully resonant, and a refusal to adhere to conventional performance practices; he often re-edits scores himself and is known for improvisational elements within established works. He rarely records and gives comparatively few concerts, adding to the significance of each performance.
Herkulessaal is the main concert hall of the Munich Residence, the former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria. Originally built as a court theatre in the early 18th century under Max Emanuel, it underwent significant redesigns in the Rococo style by François Cuvilliés the Elder. The hall was substantially restored after damage during World War II, reopening in 1961. Its acoustics are highly regarded, making it a favored venue for chamber music and solo instrumental performances.
