The Gewandhausorchester Leipzig will perform at the Oper Leipzig on May 30, 2027. The Gewandhausorchester is renowned for its historically informed performances of Central German composers – particularly Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Wagner – while also maintaining a broad repertoire spanning from baroque to contemporary works. Oper Leipzig holds significant importance within German operatic tradition. Established in 1693, it is one of the oldest civic opera houses in Germany. The current building, inaugurated in 1960, replaced earlier structures destroyed during World War II. Throughout its history, Oper Leipzig has been associated with numerous prominent composers and singers, premiering works by Richard Wagner and Robert Schumann amongst others. It’s known for a diverse repertoire encompassing standard operatic works alongside lesser-known pieces and contemporary compositions.
