Kropfitsch envisioned a festival dedicated to bringing operatic and theatrical experiences to a rural setting. Over time, a purpose-built Festspielhaus was constructed—notably featuring a retractable roof—allowing performances to continue regardless of weather conditions. The festival focuses primarily on opera but also includes concerts, theatre productions and other cultural events.
