Experience Franui live on October 1st
Franui is scheduled to perform at the Festspiele Erl in Austria on October 1st, 2026. The ensemble is recognized for its distinctive approach to traditional alpine folk music – particularly that of Tyrol – blended with elements of jazz, classical, and contemporary composition. Their instrumentation typically features clarinet, zither, guitar, double bass, and vocals, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted in regional heritage and strikingly innovative.
The Festspiele Erl itself has a significant history. Founded in 1962 by Augustinus Franz Kropfitsch, it initially began as an open-air performance of Leo Fitzmaurice’s opera *Don Juan* staged within the grounds of Erl Castle. Kropfitsch envisioned a festival dedicated to bringing operatic and theatrical experiences to a rural setting. Over time, a purpose-built Festspielhaus was constructed—notably featuring a retractable roof—allowing performances to continue regardless of weather conditions. The festival focuses primarily on opera but also includes concerts, theatre productions and other cultural events. It maintains a strong commitment to showcasing both established works and fostering emerging talent within the realm of performing arts. The location’s acoustics are frequently lauded as exceptional.
