The Quay is a multi-purpose arts centre located on the banks of the River Stour in Sudbury. Originally constructed in 1998 as part of a larger regeneration project for the riverside area, it houses a 164-seat theatre, a gallery space and a cafe/bar. The building itself occupies a site with historical significance, previously home to Sudbury’s maltings – buildings used for barley malting which were central to the town’s brewing industry for centuries. The Quay hosts a diverse programme of events throughout the year including theatre productions, live music performances, art exhibitions and film screenings; serving as a key cultural venue for both local residents and visitors to the area. It underwent refurbishment in 2018 to improve accessibility and facilities.
