Experience Flea live on July 31st
Michael “Flea” Balzary, best known as the bassist for the iconic rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, will be performing a solo concert at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on July 31, 2026. Flea’s musical style extends beyond traditional rock basslines; it incorporates elements of funk, punk, and jazz improvisation, often characterized by energetic and highly melodic playing. While primarily recognized for his work with the Chili Peppers, he has also explored diverse musical projects including collaborations across genres and solo instrumental work.
Fort Adams State Park is a significant historical landmark. Construction began in 1824 as part of the First System of American coastal defense fortifications, though the current fort largely represents work completed between 1837 and 1856. Named after President John Adams, it served as an active military installation through World War II. The fort is considered one of the largest and best-preserved coastal fortifications in the United States. Today, it’s administered by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and is open to the public for tours and events.
