Filarmonica della Scala is the resident orchestra of Teatro alla Scala and one of Italy’s leading orchestras. Its musical style is rooted in the Italian operatic tradition, characterized by a rich, expressive sound and a deep understanding of bel canto phrasing. While frequently performing operatic repertoire, the orchestra also regularly presents symphonic works spanning the classical and romantic periods, as well as contemporary compositions. The ensemble boasts a long history of collaboration with prominent conductors and soloists.

Teatro alla Scala, inaugurated in 1778, is globally renowned as one of the premier opera houses. Commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, it quickly became a symbol of Milanese society and Italian musical culture. Architect Giuseppe Piermarini designed the building, known for its neoclassical architecture and excellent acoustics. Throughout its history, La Scala has premiered numerous significant operas by composers such as Verdi, Rossini, Donizetti and Puccini.

The theatre underwent extensive renovations between 2002 and 2004 to modernize facilities while preserving its historical character. It maintains a strong tradition of demanding artistic standards and a discerning audience, contributing to its enduring prestige within the operatic world.
