Esa-Pekka Salonen will appear at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on January 29, 2027. Salonen is a Finnish composer and conductor known for his contemporary musical style, often characterized by complex textures, innovative orchestration, and explorations of timbre. His compositions frequently incorporate elements of spectralism and a distinctive harmonic language that moves beyond traditional tonality, while remaining accessible and emotionally resonant. He has held positions as Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Philharmonia Orchestra, and currently serves as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the San Francisco Symphony.

Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed by Frank Gehry, opened in October 2003. It is renowned for its striking stainless steel exterior and its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the work of acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. The hall is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Its design intentionally eschews traditional shoebox concert hall shapes in favor of a more organic form intended to foster a closer connection between performers and audience. The building also incorporates visual arts elements throughout its public spaces, including a rose window designed by Santiago Calatrava.
