Ensemble Intercontemporain, founded by Pierre Boulez in 1976, is a leading new music ensemble renowned for its dedication to contemporary classical music. The group champions works by both established and emerging composers, often focusing on complex scores incorporating extended techniques and electronic elements. Their repertoire spans a broad range of styles within 20th and 21st-century composition, including serialism, spectralism, and post-minimalism. The ensemble is known for its virtuosic performances and commitment to exploring the boundaries of musical expression.
The concert will take place at Philharmonie de Paris, a concert hall inaugurated in January 2015. Situated in the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, it serves as the main venue for the Orchestre de Paris and hosts a diverse program of classical music, contemporary music, and other performing arts. Designed by Jean Nouvel, the Philharmonie de Paris is notable for its acoustics and innovative architectural features, including its modular concert halls – the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez (the main hall) and smaller spaces. The building aims to be accessible to a wide audience while providing exceptional conditions for performers and listeners alike.
