Ensemble Intercontemporain, founded by Pierre Boulez in 1976, is a leading new music ensemble dedicated to performing and commissioning works by contemporary composers. Their repertoire spans a wide range of styles, frequently incorporating electronic music, improvisation, and multimedia elements alongside traditional instrumental performance. The ensemble is particularly known for its interpretations of complex and challenging scores, pushing the boundaries of orchestral sound and exploring innovative performance practices.

The concert will take place at Philharmonie de Paris, a major concert hall inaugurated in January 2015. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the Philharmonie is located in the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. It’s notable for its asymmetrical design and exceptional acoustics, achieved through a ‘vineyard’ style seating arrangement surrounding the stage – allowing closer proximity to musicians for all audience members.

The Philharmonie de Paris houses two main halls: the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez, capable of accommodating over 2400 people, and the smaller Salle des Yeux, used for chamber music and other performances. The complex also includes exhibition spaces, educational facilities and a restaurant aiming to be a comprehensive center for musical exploration and education.
