Ensemble Ad Hoc is a Swiss instrumental ensemble known for its exploration of contemporary composed music, often incorporating improvisation and elements of jazz, rock, and world music influences. Founded in 1995 by composer and saxophonist Urs Stauffer, the group distinguishes itself through its flexible instrumentation – frequently shifting to suit the demands of each project – and a collaborative approach to performance. They are recognized for commissioning new works and fostering dialogue between composers and performers.
Théâtre équilibre in Fribourg serves as a bilingual (French/German) theatre and performing arts centre. Opened in 1993, the building itself, designed by architects Peter Zumthor and Roger Wehrli, is architecturally significant, noted for its use of concrete and timber construction creating a distinctive spatial experience. It functions as a regional resource for theatrical productions, dance performances, concerts, and interdisciplinary projects. The theatre hosts both local and international artists. Its programming focuses on supporting emerging artists alongside established names. Théâtre équilibre operates as part of the cultural administration of the Canton of Fribourg and plays an important role in the region's artistic landscape.
