Ensemble Ad Hoc is a German instrumental group known for its interpretations of early music, particularly compositions from the 17th and 18th centuries. Their approach blends historical performance practice with a contemporary sensibility, often featuring arrangements and improvisations based on original scores. The ensemble frequently explores the works of composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, and Dietrich Buxtehude, utilizing a diverse instrumentation including recorders, baroque guitars, cello, and percussion.
The Tauberphilharmonie in Weikersheim is housed within the historic buildings of the former Cistercian monastery and palace complex. Originally constructed in the 12th century, the site underwent significant Baroque renovations in the 18th century under Prince Alexander Ferdinand of Fürstenberg. The concert hall itself is located within the Palatial building, benefiting from excellent acoustics and an intimate setting suitable for chamber music performances. It serves as a cultural center for the region of Main-Tauber-Kreis, hosting a variety of classical music concerts, chamber opera productions and other events. The venue’s architecture reflects its layered history as both a religious institution and a princely residence.
