Ensemble Ad Hoc is a German instrumental ensemble known for its interpretations of early music, particularly compositions from the 17th and 18th centuries. Their performances frequently feature works by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, and Dietrich Buxtehude, presented with a focus on historically informed performance practice. The ensemble distinguishes itself through its flexible instrumentation – often employing recorders, transverse flutes, oboes, bassoons, and continuo instruments – and a dynamic approach to phrasing and ornamentation. They are recognized for bringing a fresh perspective to baroque repertoire while maintaining scholarly rigor.
The concert will take place at Schlösschen im Hofgarten in Wertheim, Germany. This small palace, meaning “little palace” in German, dates back to the early 18th century (completed 1723-1726) and was commissioned by Prince Alexander Ferdinand of Fürstenberg. Originally constructed as a summer residence and hunting lodge, it exemplifies Baroque architecture with Rococo influences added later. Situated within the Hofgarten (court garden), the building has served various purposes throughout its history including a school and administrative offices.
