Ensemble Ad Hoc is a contemporary music group renowned for its interpretations of complex and often unconventional scores, frequently focusing on the works of composers who explore extended techniques and microtonal systems. The ensemble, founded in 1993, is particularly known for its close collaboration with György Ligeti and has premiered numerous pieces by significant modern composers. Their repertoire spans a wide range of instrumentation, often incorporating unusual combinations and demanding virtuosity from its performers.
The concert will take place at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, an institution with a history tracing back to the 19th century. Originally founded in 1874 as a royal conservatory (“Königliches Würzburger Conservatorium”), it underwent several transformations before becoming the independent Hochschule für Musik in 1947. The school maintains a focus on both performance and research, offering programs in instrumental and vocal performance, composition, conducting, music education, and musicology. Its concert halls are regularly used for public performances by students, faculty, and guest artists. The main building is located in the historic center of Würzburg, near the Würzburg Residence – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – reflecting the city’s rich cultural heritage.
