Experience Edmund Finnis live on October 10th
Edmund Finnis is a British composer known for his subtly complex and often introspective instrumental music. His compositions frequently explore extended harmonic language, delicate textures, and a sense of quietude, drawing comparisons to composers such as Morton Feldman and György Kurtág. Finnis’s work often features intricate layering and a focus on the individual timbres of instruments, creating a distinctive sonic world. He has received commissions from leading ensembles and orchestras internationally.
The performance will take place at the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds, England. Originally built in 1878 as the Grand Assembly Room for the Leeds Permanent Building Society, it served as a public hall for civic events and social gatherings. Following a period of disuse, it underwent a significant restoration completed in 2009 led by architects Ushida Findlay.
The restored space now functions as a versatile performance venue operated by Opera North, specializing in chamber music, recitals, film screenings and intimate theatrical productions. Its design retains many original Victorian features alongside contemporary interventions, resulting in a unique acoustic environment noted for its warmth and clarity. The room’s relatively small capacity fosters a close connection between performers and audience members.
