Their instrumentation frequently incorporates trumpet, accordion, theremin, and upright bass creating a cinematic and emotionally resonant sound. Formed in Denver, Colorado in the late 1990s, DeVotchKa gained prominence through their contributions to the soundtrack of the 2006 film *Little Miss Sunshine*, including the Oscar-nominated song "The Story." They have released several studio albums and are recognized for their dynamic live performances.

Xbk Live (formerly known as The Metro) is a mid-sized concert venue located in the East Village neighborhood of Des Moines. Originally opening in 1993, it has hosted a diverse range of national and regional acts across multiple genres including rock, indie, hip-hop, and electronic music.
