The band is recognized for their distinctive blend of black metal and shoegaze, often categorized as “blackgaze.” Their music incorporates elements of post-rock, creating atmospheric soundscapes alongside aggressive instrumentation and emotionally charged vocals – frequently shifting between harsh screams and melodic cleans. Formed in San Francisco, California in 2010, Deafheaven gained prominence with albums like *Sunbather* (2013) which significantly contributed to the popularization of the blackgaze subgenre.
The Princess Theatre, located on Ipswich Road in Woolloongabba, has a history dating back to its construction in 1927. Originally designed as a picture palace and vaudeville theatre by architect Walter Ball, it operated as a cinema for several decades. Throughout its history it has undergone various transformations including periods functioning as a bingo hall and more recently, a live music venue. The theatre retains many of its original Art Deco features including ornate plasterwork and decorative detailing.
