Experience Deafheaven live on October 2nd
Deafheaven is scheduled to perform at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago, Illinois on October 2nd, 2026. The band is generally categorized as post-metal, though their sound incorporates elements of black metal, shoegaze, and post-rock. Characterized by blast beats, tremolo picking typical of black metal, Deafheaven distinguishes itself through prominent use of melodic guitar textures and emotionally resonant clean vocals – a combination often referred to as “blackgaze.” Formed in San Francisco, California in 2010, they gained significant recognition with their 2013 album *Sunbather*, which broadened the genre’s appeal and sparked debate regarding its classification.
The Riviera Theatre originally opened in 1918 as a movie palace and vaudeville house. Located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, it was designed by Henry C. Koch and features a Spanish Baroque architectural style. Throughout its history, the venue has hosted a diverse range of performers including musical acts, theatrical productions, and political rallies. In the 1980s it underwent renovations to become primarily a live music venue, retaining much of its original ornate detailing.
