Deafheaven will perform at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California on October 9, 2026. The band is generally categorized as post-black metal, a genre blending elements of black metal – characterized by tremolo-picked guitars, blast beats, and often harsh vocals – with shoegaze and post-rock influences. This results in a sound incorporating atmospheric textures, melodic passages, and dynamic shifts alongside more aggressive elements. Formed in San Francisco in 2010, Deafheaven has gained recognition for albums like *Sunbather* (2013) and *Ordinary Corrupt Human Being* (2021), pushing boundaries within extreme metal.

The Fox Theater originally opened in 1929 as a lavish movie palace designed by architect Henry C. Agree. It operated as a cinema until the late 1960s, subsequently undergoing periods of disuse and various alternative functions including use as a church and performance space for smaller acts. A significant renovation completed in 2009 restored much of the theater’s original Art Deco splendor.
