St Giles’ Cripplegate is a historic parish church in the City of London. Originally founded before the Norman Conquest, the current building largely dates from the mid-15th century, having been rebuilt after a fire. It survived the Great Fire of London in 1666 largely intact, though subsequent restoration work occurred in the 19th century under George Gilbert Scott Jr.. The church is notable for its association with Oliver Cromwell, who was married there in 1642 and held a period of residence nearby. Its tower houses a peal of twelve bells, making it an important centre for change ringing. Throughout its history, St Giles’ Cripplegate has served as a significant place of worship and community gathering within the City of London.
